UDMF constituent Sadbhawana Party unilaterally announces next phase of protest

KATHMANDU: Sadbhawana Party, one of the key constituents of the protesting United Democratic Madhesi Front, on Saturday announced next protest programmes to be staged by the party individually.

The UDMF, however, is yet to announce next protest programmes.

Organising a press conference in the Capital today, the SP announced various programmes to be effective from Sunday, January 3 to January 11.

Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato, who is currently in New Delhi in the course of treatment, has signed the press statement announcing the protest programmes.

In the statement, Mahato has called party cadres and supporters to hold prayers at shrines, maintain an hour-long silence, carry out wall painting and signature campaigns in support of demands of the Madhes agitation, promote the protest programmes on social media and keep a day-long fasting on different days as parts of the protest programmes.

Various Madhes-centric parties including the SP have protesting the recently promulgated the Constitution for last four months claiming the historic charter did not ensure proportional inclusive representation of their community and did not reflect identity in the federal set-up.
