KATHMANDU, AUGUST 23

A record-holding Sherpa climber from Sangkhuwasabha district scaled Mt Kilimanjaro this morning as he aims to complete all seven summits, according to expedition organizer.

Lakpa Sherpa, a senior mountain guide from Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition stood atop Africa's highest peak at around 8:00 am, said Seven Summits Trek.

Lakpa along with his clients scaled Kilimanjaro after they found a fair summit window, it added. Earlier, Lakpa, before heading towards Africa, told THT that he wanted to complete all seven summits.

Lakpa, who scaled several peaks, made headlines in 2022 after he scaled Mt Makalu for the third time in 16 days becoming the only climber to make the most ascents of 8485-metre peaks in a single season. Lakpa made the first ascent of Makalu on 12 May, second on 20 May and third on 28 May 2022.

The record holding climber is on his way to base camp, SST added.
