KATHMANDU, JULY 22
A record-holding Sherpa climber from Sangkhuwasabha district scaled Mt Elbrus this morning as he aims to complete all seven summits, according to expedition organizer.
Lakpa Sherpa, a senior mountain guide from Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition stood atop Europe's highest peak at around 6:20 am local time, said Seven Summits Trek. "Today, I scaled the peak from the south side after reaching the top from the east side just two days ago," Lakpa said.
Lakpa along with Chatur Tamang and other climbers scaled Elbrus after they found a fair summit window, it added. Earlier, Lakpa, before heading towards Russia, told THT that he wanted to complete all seven summits. He had already climbed Mt Everest and Africa's highest peak Kilimanjaro. "I will climb Aconcagua in the coming winter season," he shared.
Lakpa, who scaled several peaks, made headlines in 2022 after he scaled Mt Makalu for the third time in 16 days becoming the only climber to make the most ascents of 8485-metre peaks in a single season. Lakpa made the first ascent of Makalu on 12 May, second on 20 May and third on 28 May 2022. The record holding climber has already arrived in the base camp, SST added.
