Makawanpur police seize 78.8kg marijuana from truck
HETAUDA: Police in Makawanpur district seized more than 78 kg of marijuana from a truck heading towards Pathlaiya from Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City.
Police also arrested truck driver Afrika Chaudhary of Birgunj Metropolitan City-29, Parsa district.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Singh at Makawanpur District Police Office (DPO), the Chaudhary drove off the truck (Na 6 Kha 131) along with a policeman who had boarded the vehicle to conduct a routine inspection. When the truck stopped at Churiyamai Naya Basti, the driver and another person aboard the vehicle dragged the policeman into the jungle while being followed by a police team deployed from Pashupatinagar-based Area Police Office led by Police Inspector Arun Kumar Kushwaha. The law enforcers had to fire two shots at driver's leg to stop the driver and his aide.
Two other policemen were also injured in the incident, SP Singh said at a press conference organised at the DPO.
Police seized a total of 78.8kg of marijuana packed in 14 packages from the truck cabin.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
