Malaysian man held with cache of foreign currencies from TIA

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police detained a Malaysian national in suspicion of foreign currency smuggling after discovering a huge cache of foreign currencies from his possession at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Identified as Kesheminder Hingh Milkit Singh (51), bearing Malaysian passport (831621117), the 51-year-old man had carried USD 6,700, Pound Sterling 1,900, Singapore Dollar 2,800, Australian dollar 500, UAE Dirham 9,755, Indian rupees 73,500, Malaysian Ringgit 30,400 and Nepali Rs 47,000.

Singh was heading to board a Malaysian Air flight from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur on Friday, police said.

Police handed over the suspect to the TIA Customs Office for further investigation and action.
