RAUTAHAT: A man from Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality in Rautahat District in Province 2 has been detained for posing as undercover Nepal Army personnel to extort money from local businessmen.

Police made public 23-year-old Jitendra Das who extorted money from local businessmen, threatening to raid their stores unless they paid him the sum he asked.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra Marasini, police acted on complaints that Das passed threat calls and extorted money from businessmen of Gaur and other remote parts of the district.

Das was nabbed in Gaur while drawing money from a businessman, DSP Marasini added.

Moreover, Das might have accomplices who aided him in extortion; DSP Marasini informed and said that further investigation into the case is underway.
