Jhapa, January 19

A person committed suicide after attacking two women at Arjundhara Municipality in Jhapa today.

According to Area Police Office, Birtamod, Khadananda Poudel, 40, of the municipality attacked his neighbours Jamuna Ojha and her friend BinaBharati of

the same municipality with khukuri this morning. Poudel then committed suicide using the same weapon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Subash Khadka said Poudel slit his throat with the same khukuri at the back of Ojha’s house after the two women were critically injured in the attack.

Police said Ojha had received deep cut in her throat and ears while Bharati received bruises  on her body parts. DSP Khadka informed that critically injured women were receiving treatment at Birtamod-based B&C Hospital.

According to preliminary investigation of police, Ojha had called Bharati when she was alone at her house yesterday night.   The incident occured after Poudel reached Ojha’s house and started attacking them with khukuri indiscriminately this morning.

Police said Bharati received injuries while trying to protect Ojha when Poudel attacked Ojha with khukuri. DSP Khadka, quoting neighbours, said Poudel had also attacked Bharati. Poudel slit his throat after the women fell on the ground, said police. Police said the body  had been sent to Mechi Zonal Hospital, Bhadrapur, for autopsy. DSP Khadka said the motive behind the attack had yet to be established.

Further investigation into the incident is under way, said police.
