KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday said a man has been arrested on charge of swindling public by showing a gold alike metal from Basbari area, on Tuesday.

Issuing a press statement today, the Metropolitan Crime Division identified the suspect as Mohan Kumar Tamang of Ramechhap Municipality-9 currently residing in Bode of Bhaktapur.

A sleuth deployed from the MCD had arrested Tamang from in front of Shahid Gangalal Hospital in Basbari area around 1:30 pm yesterday.

The conman used to brandish the gold alike metal to general public and urged them to keep the metal and provide him some cash and gold in return, before cashing it in nearby shops, according to police.

Police also seized the metal and other items from Tamang.

Meanwhile, police have sent the suspect to the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu for further investigation and action today itself, MCD Spokesperson and Inspector Narendra Prasad Upreti said in the statement.

Meanwhile, police have urged the general public to remain alert of such activities as festive season is down the corner.

Police also requested the general public to immediately call police (9851283032, 9851284032), if anyone is found in suspicious circumstances.
