BIRGUNJ: A Birgunj resident was beaten to death by the villagers of Thori Village Development Committee 3, on Sunday night.

Santa Kuwar had earlier attacked Ashish Gurung with a weapon over an argument. In retaliation, the villagers ganged up against him. He died on the way to the Birjung hospital.

According to the Inspector Bhuwaneshwor Shah, Gurung was seriously injured after the attack by Kuwar and is undergoing treatment in a local health centre.

The district police said that 2 rounds of bullets had to be fired in the air to disperse the mob. Ramesh Shrestha, Mohit Gurung, Chitra Sapkota and Amrit Thapa have been arrested for involvment in the incident.
