Manipal Medical College reopens

Pokhara, March 1

An agreement between agitating staffers and management at Manipal Medical College has ended a two-month-long agitation in Pokhara.

With the agreement, classes resumed while OPD service, which was halted partially, opened completely from today.

Classes were disrupted after employees staged agitation demanding a charter of demands including salary increment.

OPD service was partially closed down.

Manipal Employees’ Union Coordination Committee Chairman Bikram KC said that they had sealed the agreement with compromise though all of their demands were not met.

Committee member Ramesh Bohara said they had signed the accord as the long-standing agitation would ruin the college’s reputation. Bohara said the management had agreed to increase salary as per the staffs’ grade.

The college management has agreed to formulate policy on the promotion of staff within a month and execute it accordingly.

For the past two months, the staff had also sought the resignation of the Dean and Chief of the Human Resource Department for their failure to address their demands on time.

Birendra Yadav, Chief at the Human Resource Department, Manipal Medical College, said that the disrupted classes as well as health services had resumed after they inked the agreement with the agitating employees.
