The mayor of Manthali Municipality Ramesh Basnet said he was thrashed while the municipal executive meeting was being held at the office in Ramechhap last evening.

Mayor Basnet said municipal executive members and Ward No 5 Chair Ram Bahadur Karki, Ward No 12 Chair Krishna Hari Adhikari and judicial committee member Uddav Ramtel of Manthali Municipality thrashed him during the meeting. He further added that Karki, Adhikari and Ramtel beat him with the water bottles, tea glasses, name plates and chairs, among other materials, demanding that he release money for old projects that have been completed.

Basnet claimed that the persons mentioned had thrashed him while trying to establish the process for financial regulation, visibility and system.

A participant at the meeting said the mayor was beaten after Karki demanded that he release the amount of the last fiscal for Ward No 5. He added that the situation went out of control after Mayor Basnet and the chief administrative officer refused to release the amount.

Issuing the press release last evening, Basnet said he was committed to development of the municipality and would not fear threats.
