Jhapa, July 10:

Locals here faced difficulties on Sunday as traffic and business houses remained closed due to a bandh called by the Maoists. Markets in Bhadrapur, Birtamod, Kakarvitta and Damak were totally shut down. Public vehicles did not ply on the road. However, rickshaws, motorcycles and vans were seen plying as usual. The Maoists had called for a bandh by distributing pamphlets on Saturday. Locals said over 90 per cent people were unaware of the bandh till Sunday morning. “The closure without prior notice badly affected the life here,” said Bharat Lal Shrestha, a local merchant in Bhadrapur.
