Maoist cadre injured in attack by MPRF activists in Inaruwa
Itahari, January 23:
One Maoist cadre was critically injured from the attack of Madheshi Peoples’ Right Forum (MPRF) cadres today.
The MPRF cadres, who were staging a sit-in at Traffic Chowk in Inaruwa, took control of Maoist cadre Mohan Khatri, who was heading to Sunsari from Udaypur in a motorbike (Ba 8 Pa 2348) at 1:30 am and attacked him.
Injured Khatri is taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment, Maoist source said. The participants of sit-in damaged Khatri’s motorbike by setting fire, police said.
Meanwhile, MPRF cadres vandalised the office of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and some private houses in Inaruwa today.
The protest rally of MPRF, which started from Traffic Chowk, was disrupted after stones were pelted in the rally from unknown place nearby the NEA office, district police office said. The enraged cadres vandalised NEA office and houses after stones were pelted in the rally, SP Nara Bahadur KC said. The situation become normal after the locals came out of the houses to retaliate, police said.
MPRF cadres disrupted traffic at Laukahi, Bhantabari, and Duhabi by burning tyres today. Though the traffic in Duhabi was resumed in the afternoon, traffic in other areas was hated.
Meanwhile, MPRF cadres in the protest of Lahan incident staged demonstration and corner gathering in Rajbiraj today.
The participants of the rally demanded the resignation of home minister, public apology from Maoist chairperson Prachanda and providing reasonable compensation to the victims. The participants of rally staged a corner meeting at Netachowk and burnt down the copy of interim constitution.
In Birgunj, transport workers took control over the two MPRF cadres and handed over them to the police today. Transport workers, on the charge of vandalising vehicles, took control over MPRF central member Jitendra Sonal and chairperson of Thakurram Campus unit of student front Om Prakash Kusbaha and handed them over to the police. MPRF cadres vandalised a petroleum tanker and a tempo, Parsa DPO said.
Meanwhile, NC president of Siraha, Sita Devi Yadav, said representatives of the seven political parties and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula will visit Lahan tomorrow. “Though the members of the interim parliament from seven parties were scheduled to visit Lahan today, they could not come,” Yadav said.
