Maoist leader warns against murder probe

Dailekh, September 2:

A complaint lodged by slain journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa’s family, seeking punishment for the guilty, has enraged a CPN-Maoist local leader in Dailekh district. He has even warned against any probe into the killing.

Thapa was killed four year ago by the CPN-Maoist cadres. On the initiation of the Federation of Nepali Journalists’ central coordinating committee and the district chapter, Thapa’s body was exhumed four a few weeks ago.

Issuing a press release, CPN-Maoist district committee secretary Karna Bahadur Basnet (Deep Shikhar) expressed anger at Thapa’s wife Laxmi for lodging the complaint in the District

Police Office.

He said it was wrong to renew the old incident and warned that a probe into it could invite “unpleasant incident.”

Commenting on Basnet’s reaction, Federation of Nepali Journalists’ central general secretary Poshan KC said the statement coming from Basnet was objectionable as well as condemnable.

Thapa’s wife had filed a first information report in the police against four Maoist cadres a few days ago.
