Maoist standing committee meet begins

KATHMANDU: The standing committee meeting of the main opposition, Unified CPN-Maoist, commenced today at the party headquarters in Koteshwor.

UCPN-M chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented the party’s political document in the meeting. The document covers the present political situation, ongoing protest programme of the party, High-Level Political Mechanism and plans to expand the party’s organisational structure.

Emerging from the meeting, party spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma told mediapersons that the meeting would intensively dwell on the chairman’s proposal. The next meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, standing committee members opined that the HLPM should address the demands raised by the Maoists.

According to Sharma, standing committee members, further, argued that they should continue their agitation Five standing committee members aired their views in the meeting.

A standing committee member seeking anonymity said that Prachanda has stated that the integration of Maoist combatants and the constitution writing process should go together. Prachanda has claimed that the processes would be accomplished within the next four months, the member added.
