Maoist stir shuts schools

TAPLEJUNG: Schools across the district remained shut today due to a two-day educational institution closure called by the UCPN-Maoist.

The Maoists called for the closure demanding legal action against

Youth Force activists who had shot Laxmi Aangchhangbo, a member of the Limbuwan State secretariat.

Earlier a gang led by Youth Force activist Rupesh Samekham had opened fire at Aangchhangbo while the latter was at a coffee stall in Taplejung.

Police, however, had arrested Aangchhangbo on charges of wielding a weapon.

Meanwhile, Nepal Teachers' Union Taplejung has also called for closure of public schools in the district for Tuesday and Wednesday. The teachers have demanded for security of teachers.

Issuing a release on Sunday, the teacher's union has urged not to politicize schools and the schools be declared zone of peace.

Chhatrapati Pyakurel, president of Nepal Teachers' Union, Taplejung said that they had no choice but to protest against activities like, teachers being attacked by political parties, disrupting teaching environment by giving political color and turning of schools to battlegrounds.
