Maoists for autonomy for govt media

Kathmandu, February 25:

Maoist leader CP Gajurel today urged the government to stop using the state-owned media as its mouthpiece.

“The state-owned media is always seen praising the government and are hardly critical,” he said, adding that the media should be made free to decide what is the best to be competitive.

“We do not favour privatisation of the state-owned media but we want them to carry the people’s voice,” he said, speaking at an interaction programme organised at the Reporters’ Club Nepal, today. He also said that the media today has failed to maintain its image it gained during the period of Jana Andolan II.
