'Maoists may call off strike'
BIRATNAGAR: Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong today claimed that the Unified CPN-Maoist-announced agitation programme that included the general strike from January 24 on would be withdrawn.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Chemjong said, “Since Prachanda himself is in the recently formed High Level Political Mechanism, we believe they will withdraw their announced programme.”
A three-member committee had been formed for talks with the MJF, he said. He said that the government has also given a final shape to the committee formed for talks with underground armed organisations. The committee is led by Chemjong himself.
