Maoists plan to persist with inter-party talks

Kathmandu, March 25:

A meeting of the parliamentary department of the Unified CPN-Maoist today decided to continue dialogues with the political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly to effectively run the winter session of legislature-parliament, draft new constitution on time and take the peace process to a logical end.

Party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said that the party’s parliamentary party meeting scheduled for March 27 and 28 would mainly discuss the Bills to be presented in the winter session and the ordinance on inclusiveness.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai would brief the Maoist CA members on the achievements of the government and Law Minister Dev Gurung on the Bills and the Ordinance.

The government is planning to table three Bills — Bill on Domestic Violence against Women, a bill on health and a bill on implementation of the declaration of republic — and the Ordinance on Inclusiveness in State Organs. Narayankaji Shrestha, chief of the party’s parliamentary department, would train the CA members on their role in the winter session.

Sharma said the Maoist CA members would also share their experiences about their recent visits to districts to collect general people’s opinions on the form and contents of the new constitution. He said his party’s CA members would lobby for presidential system while drafting the constitution.
