Maoists revive 'people's govt'

SURKHET: The UCPN-Maoist has revived its 'people's government'at Dasharathpur VDC of Surkhet on Saturday.

Party's Bheri- Karnali state committee secretariat member Khadak Bahadur Gharti has declared the reinstatement of the 'people's government' with Top Bahadur Rana as the president. Similarly, Krishna Bahadur Karki has been named the vice president while the ward members representing each ward in the VDC have been nominated as the members of the 'government.'

Present in the ceremony, among others, were Krishna Prasad Dhamala, the UCPN-M district in-charge and district committee secretariat member Ganesh Nepali.

The Maoists had established such governments all across the country during the period of a decade-long insurgency.

With the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in November 2006 between the Maoists and the SPA, so called 'People's governments' were dissolved.

Leaders belonging to other political parties have protested the Maoists' recent move saying it openly violates the peace pact made some three years back.
