Maoists to announce protests today

KATHMANDU: A standing committee meeting of the main opposition UCPN-Maoist this evening decided to announce protest programmes tomorrow if there was no consensus by 11 am.

"The standing committee meeting to begin 11 am tomorrow will announce programmes of protest if the parties failed to forge consensus on the common resolution motion," said party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma after today's meeting. He said the UCPN-M was forced to wage a struggle. The meeting has started discussion on the agenda of struggle and organisation. "We had to postpone today's meeting to attend the three-party meeting," he added.

Sharma said it was unjustifiable to say that people cannot question the President or the Prime Minister. He claimed that his party was for addressing the President's issues in one way or another.

He said the three-member sub-committee, representing leaders of the three major parties, had been mandated to draft a common resolution motion after those drafted by the Maoists and two other parties earlier separately had been rejected.
