Maoists to revive people’s govts

JAJARKOT: A three-day meeting of the UCPN-Maoist held in Jajarkot has decided to resurrect their people’s

government in the district, arguing that the people have been facing difficulties due to the prolonged absence of representatives at the local bodies.

Local leader of the Maoists said the decision was taken since the government had shown apathy towards the peoples’ problems. “We’ve decided to resurrect the local governments to ease peoples’ works,’’ said Gagan Khadka ‘Jeevan’, UCPN-M district secretary, adding that government officials at the local bodies would be asked to work as per the directives of their local government.

“We have directed our cadres to form the local governments at the earliest,’’ Khadka added. The meeting also decided to intensify the protest until the establishment of ‘people’s supremacy’ in the country. He warned of retaliation if the government tried to quell their agitation.

The meeting also formed a struggle committee comprising 46 members. The party’s district committee member Dipendra Sharma said they would also intensify programmes to prepare for the third people’s movement.
