Maoists urged to free abductees

The National Human Rights Commission has urged the Maoists to immediately release the abducted individuals and respect human rights and international humanitarian law. It further called on the rebels to allow displaced people to return to their homes. The rebels reportedly abducted a security personnel posted at Pashupati Prasad Gan, Man Bahadur Ranabhat of Bange, Lamjung from Harion, Sarlahi on July 3. Likewise, 13-year-old Rama Parajuli of Serna VDC, Okhaldhunga was abducted on June 29 while she was on her way to school. The rebels bombed the house of Deep Bahadur Karki of Ramechhap in February and looted cash and jewellery worth a million rupees from the house of 77-year-old Deep Bahadur Rai in Dandagaon VDC, Chaichumma Pipaldanda in Khotang. Meanwhile, the Human Rights Organisation of Nepal in its statement has urged the Maoist rebels to free forty-year-old Mitra Lal Bhattarai of Beltar VDC, Udayapur district. The Maoists reportedly abducted him on July 14 at 5 pm from his house. His whereabouts are not known. Bhattarai who is a businessman.
