Maoists warn of armed rebellion

Nuwakot, March 31:

Maoist leaders said today that their party cadres will launch an armed rebellion again if the parliament does not announce the formation of a republic immediately. The leaders were speaking at a gathering in Battar of Nuwakot district.

Alleging that the announcement of a republic was being delayed due to regressive forces’ fascination for monarchy, a central secretariat member of the CPN (Maoist), Posta Bahadur Bogati, said, “The parliament should announce the formation of a republic before the election to the constituent assembly (CA).” He added that the conflict was still continuing in the nation.

Central member of the CPN (Maoist), Agni Sapkota, said, “Though our party has stopped its armed conflict, hoping that the parliament will announce the formation of a republic, it has not stopped its war.”

“If the parliament does not announce the formation of a republic before the CA election, we will announce a republic after ousting the king from the palace and cordoning off the Narayanhiti Palace.”

Stating that monarchy was an obstacle in the formation of new Nepal and that the seven parties are “helpers” of the king, Sapkota said, “If the seven parties do not help us do away with monarchy, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers will come out of their camps to announce a republic.”

Central member of the All Nepal Women’s Union-Revolutionary Bimala Subedi said: “The republic should be announced before the CA polls. For that, 10,000 women are ready to sacrifice their lives.”
