Marginalised communities seek access to resources

Kathmandu, June 25:
Members of the highly marginalised communities today demanded greater control and access to land, forest, water and productive resources for their uplift. Some 400 members of the marginalised communities, including Haliyas and Kamaiyas, voiced their concern at a seminar on Sustainable Livelihood and People’s Access to Natural Resources and protested against what they said “exclusionary state policies, dominance of alien bureaucracy and unequal distribution of resources”. Ganesh BK, who represented the Dalit community, sniffed sarcasm over numerous declarations in the name of marginalised communities. Participants demanded
implementation of ‘pro-people land reforms’.
