RAUTAHAT, FEBRUARY 27

A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority held Mayor of Debahigonahi Municipality with bribe amount Rs 5 lakh from the municipality office in Rautahat, today.

The anti-graft commission held Dharmendra Patel of the municipality from his office this afternoon.

The officials of CIAA arrested Patel while he was taking bribe money in cash and cheque from Ward 7 Chairman Shekh Nurulla.

Patel said he received the amount for development and construction of the municipality. Nurulla handed over Rs 250,000 cash and a cheque with the amount of Rs 250,000 to Patel.

The team has also arrested three others involved in the same case.

The CIAA team led by DSP Puspa Malla held chief of the planning department, chief of the account section and Patel's personal assistant.

Patel was elected from Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, while Nurulla supported CPN-UML. The security measures at the municipality office and its surroundings have been beefed up.
