JHAPA, MARCH 12

Nepali Congress General Secretary Biswo Prakash Sharma today made it clear that the Millennium Challenge Corporation compact ratified from the Parliament was for the development of hydropower projects and roads in the country.

Speaking at the party's training programme in Chandragadhi, Jhapa, Sharma said the MCC was a development grant that the American government had provided only after successive governments' request.

Sharma cautioned that some parties might spread the rumour saying that American troops would come to Nepal, in order to get some votes in the polls. He argued that Nepal should receive foreign aid and grant as the national economy alone was not adequate for the big projects.

On a different note, Sharma said that Nepali Congress had the onus of leading the government due to the incompetency of the communists. "People have realised that only Nepali Congress can lead and guide the country on the path of development and prosperity," Sharma added.
