Medicine shortage hits Gulmi

GULMI: The health posts of Gulmi district have not been able to provide proper health facilities due to short supply of medicines. Though the government declared free primary health services to people, the district dwellers are in trouble as no medicines are available in the health posts.

Health workers of health posts and sub-health posts in villages informed they could not provide medicines to patients as they had not received the same from the District Public Health Office. Organising a press meet at Tamghas today, Nepal Health Workers Union informed of the shortage of medicines in the district. They have also urged the authorities concerned to supply necessary medicines in the district immediately.

Chairman of the union, Narayan Prasad Aryal, said that the supply of medicines was yet to arrive despite their frequent requests to concerned authorities. The government provides 20 different kinds of medicines to the DPHO, 32 types to the health posts and 22 to the sub-health posts.

Shila Chhetri, doctor at the DPHO, informed that the Health Department had failed to provide sufficient amount of medicines despite their repeated calls.
