Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari, has stressed the need to adopt scientific methods to enhance paddy production in Nepal.
Speaking at a programme organized by the Department of Agriculture to mark the 22nd National Paddy Plantation Day on Sunday, Minister Adhikari highlighted the importance of increasing agricultural productivity to support the national economy.
He stated that modernizing agriculture is a key priority of the government, and various initiatives have been launched to support farmers and elevate the dignity of the agricultural profession.
Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Prakash Kumar Sanjel, emphasized that raising farmers' awareness of food security is a critical aspect of ongoing agricultural reforms. He noted that paddy production plays a vital role in ensuring national food security and underscored the importance of promoting climate-resilient rice varieties.
Various agencies, including the Department of Agriculture, the Crop Development Directorate, and the Agricultural Biodiversity Conservation Centre, are actively engaged in organizing exhibitions, awareness programmes, and poster campaigns to disseminate information on paddy cultivation.
The Department observes National Paddy Plantation Day every year on Asar 15 (mid-June to early July), celebrating the significance of paddy cultivation with a range of public outreach activities.
