Minister Chand meets ITC Executive Director Gonzalez in Geneva

KATHMANDU: Minister for Commerce Jayanta Chand held a meeting with Executive Director of International Trade Centre (ITC) Arancha Gonzalez in Geneva on Friday.

During the meeting, the duo discussed the trade capacity building support being provided by the ITC to Nepal, read a statement issued by Permanent Mission of Nepal in Geneva.

Gonzalez also expressed her commitment to continue ITC's support to Nepal in the future.

A Nepali delegation led by Minister Chand had reached Geneva to take part in the Fifth Meeting of Trade Ministers of Landlocked Developing Countries organised by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and World Trade Organisation (WTO) held on June 23-24.

Meanwhile, Minister Chand also held a meeting with Secretary General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Mukhisa Kituyi in latter’s office in Geneva, the statement added.

They discussed the specific needs of least developed countries and landlocked developing countries to implement global sustainable developmental initiatives including Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, Addis Ababa Action Agenda, Paris Agreement on Climate Change and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

During the meeting, Kituyi extended invitation to Minister Chand to participate in the 14th Ministerial Conference of UNCTAD to be held on July 17-22 in Nairobi, the statement added.
