Minister Mandal pledges action against guilty in NOC land purchase deal
Biratnagar, August 6
Minister for Commerce and Supply Shiv Kumar Mandal today pledged to punish the guilty in embezzlement of millions in the land purchase deal of Nepal Oil Corporation.
Talking to mediapersons in Biratnagar airport, Minister Mandal said, “I am ready to quit the post of minister but will not give immunity to the guilty. If found guilty, anyone will be brought to justice,” Mandal said.
Noting that the Parliamentary Account Committee had recommended action to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority identifying the guilty, Mandal said that he had started an internal investigation into the deal. “Many ask if I will be able to withstand the pressure. I am committed to punishing the guilty even if I have to step down from the post of minister,” Mandal added.
Mandal said he had sought legal advice from the Attorney General regarding corruption in the NOC land purchase deal. He said that he would initiate action after the facts come out following an investigation.
Mandal said he had directed all the departments and offices to control artificial shortage during festivals. He said he had issued directive to check black-marketing during the festive season.
Mandal said he would make efforts to implement the agreements signed with China and Bangladesh to end the monopoly on import of petroleum products from one country.
