KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 26
Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, has emphasized the importance of coordination among stakeholders to address climate change issues.
In his inaugural address at the Conference on Circular Economy in Nepal and Transformation Toward a Sustainable Future, organized by Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) today, the Minister underscored the necessity of collaborative and coordinated efforts to combat the climate crisis.
He highlighted the devastating consequences of climate change, such as floods, landslides, inundations, avalanches, glacial lake outbursts, snowmelt, depletion of water resources, excessive rainfall, and drought. These phenomena are poised to severely impact the global economy, and collective actions are required to mitigate their effects.
The Minister also took the opportunity to mention Nepal's active participation at the recent COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the country raised its concerns over the impacts of climate change and advocated for viable solutions.
WCN Senior Programme Officer Subhash Chandra Kharel announced that the event will conclude tomorrow, Wednesday.
The conference aims to provide a shared platform for government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and academia to collaborate on promoting circular economy practices and exchanging experiences.
It will feature panel discussions on various topics, with participation from government representatives, donor agencies, organizations, circular economy-based entrepreneurs, youth industrialists, students, journalists, environmentalists, and social workers.
