KATHMANDU, APRIL 7
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has urged employers to ensure minimum wages and social security benefits for individuals engaged as trainee workers, in line with existing labour laws.
In a press release issued on Monday, the ministry said it has received complaints from health workers and nursing staff in hospitals, teachers and employees in private and institutional schools, and workers in other establishments for not receiving minimum wages and mandated benefits.
Citing Section 18 (3) of the Labour Act, 2017, the ministry clarified that individuals engaged in training must be provided with at least the minimum wage, along with benefits such as sick leave, gratuity, provident fund and insurance.
Expressing serious concern over reported violations, the ministry called on all employers to fully comply with legal provisions related to wages and social security.
It also warned that legal action would be taken against those found depriving trainee workers of entitled benefits, urging institutions and stakeholders to ensure voluntary compliance with the law.
