Mission accomplished, misgivings cleared: PM
Kathmandu, February 21
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today claimed that he had accomplished the mission of his India visit and was satisfied with the progress.
Addressing Nepali and Indian media and other members of the Nepali community at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi this evening, the PM said his only objective was to clear the misunderstanding between the two countries.
He said the main objective of his visit was achieved following his meetings with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday.
“I have come to India to clear the misunderstanding and not with a shopping list,” Oli told mediapersons. He, however, did not elaborate on the misunderstanding.
He said Indian support was necessary as Nepal was entering the era of economic prosperity, ending the era of political struggle and his visit had focused on such issues.
Responding to a question about discrimination against Madhes, the PM claimed that the new constitution was inclusive, progressive and democratic and therefore it was not justified to raise objections against it.
He said the constitution was promulgated through the most democratic process and after several years of discussion.
He, however, said there was room for amending the constitutional provisions.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa also said the Nepali delegation had successfully achieved the objectives set for the India visit.
Thapa also briefed journalists about the agreements signed between Nepali and Indian delegations yesterday, as well as activities of the delegation today.
Later in the evening, while addressing the Nepali community living in India, Oli said his government would address the problems raised by the Nepali community in India, including high phone tariff, exchange of currency and other problems at the border points.
Prime Minister Oli today flew in a special helicopter to observe the Tehri Hydropower Project in Uttarakhand. He was accompanied by the Indian Energy State Minister Piyush Goyal.
According to the PM’s Press Adviser Pramod Dahal, the PM observed the tunnel of the project, turbine and other aspects of the project.
