KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 2

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shraddha Shrestha has said that it is essential to preserve Mithila art as it is linked to its history and culture.

"However, only if art can be linked to a source of income it will be easy to pass it on to future generations," she said while handing over certificates to the participants of a Mithila Painting Training that concluded here today. Stating that such training is also necessary to link art to income, she expressed special gratitude for this initiative taken to preserve culture.

The training was organised at the joint initiative of Master Chef fame Santosh Sah, Sudi Mahila Kalyan Samaj and Rotary Nyatapol. More than 30 people participated in the three-day training.

The training was organized targeting youth, women and children interested in Mithila art and were trained on basic Mithila painting skills, design and color combination.

Diya Pokharel, a participant in the training, said that she learned a lot from the training, including about Mithili art and culture.

Artist Rameshwar Chaurasia, who was also a participant, shared his experience with paints and canvas for the first time in his life.

The trainees were trained by Pratibha Mishra, Sharda Jha, Sonam Karna, Priya Purve, Aditi Jha, among others.
