MJF CA members spar with Congress

KATHMANDU: CA members of the ruling Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and a few CA members of the Sadbhavana Party also gheraoed the well on Friday before the NC boycotted the House.

They gheraoed the well demanding that the House be allowed to pass the Scholarship (third amendment) Bill, 2008, tabled by Education Minister Renu Kumari Yadav. Discussions on the Bill have not moved ahead due to NC’s frequent boycott of the House.

“Down with the anti-Madhesi party,” MJF CA members chanted slogan in front of the well for over 15 minutes, indicating towards NC, which has not let the Bill pass. They took to the seat after the Speaker asked them to pacify, saying that the House’s attention has been drawn towards their concern.

NC whip Shobhakar Parajuli said that his party was neither anti-Madhesi, nor was it against the Bill and principle of inclusiveness. “We want to make sure that the government fully abides by the agreement reached with NC,” Parajuli said.

Ram Babu Yadav, a MJF central leader, said MJF CA members opposed the NC for preventing the House from passing the Bill.

Education Minister Renu Yadav was also seen inciting CA members to gherao the well.

According to the scholarship regulations, out of the total scholarships available, 40 per cent are reserved for poor, women, disabled, Dalit, ethnic communities and remote settlers.
