ITAHARI: A man was killed when a gang of dacoits attacked him here, on Sunday.

According to police, Dhan Bahadur Gurung (57) of Sundar Dulari-6 in Morang district, was being chased by the group and was attacked with a wooden plank.

The dacoits had reached a local petrol pump at the middle of the night and asked an employee there to open the door to his room. The employee, sensing danger, went on the roof and cried for help, informed police.

The panicked man then jumped from there and started running away. Hearing the man shout, a group of locals gathered and started charging after the dacoits instead.

Gurung was attacked with the wooden plank while chasing them.

Gurung breathed his last at the Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College in course of treatment.

One of the gang members, reportedly from Jhapa, was also seriously injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, police added.
