Morang, Sunsari trade unions not to protest

Biratnagar, July 30:

Trade unions in Morang and Sunsari districts today announced that they would not stage bandhs and strikes in the industrial sectors. Industrialists and trade unions informed this in a press meet here today.

Representatives of industrial institutions and trade unions reached the agreement after several rounds of discussions.

While the government is encouraging shifting of industries from the capital to the districts outside the valley, major trade unions of Morang-Sunsari Industrial Corridor (MSIC) have expressed their commitment not to stage bandh or strike.

Nepal Trade Union Congress, Nepal Trade Union Federation, All Nepal Trade Union Federation, Nepal Democratic Trade Union Federation, Nepal Readymade Garment Industry Association and Trade Association Morang reached were party to the agreement today.

“Industrialists and workers have to work unitedly to give new life to the MSIC, which has been neglected by the government,” first vice chairperson of Nepal Readymade Garment Industry Association Prashant Pokhrel said.

Other points agreed upon include hiring necessary manpower for new garment industry in Morang-Sunsari on daily wages and contract basis, providing salary as per legal provision and settling any dispute through dialogue between the parties.
