Mother’s Day observed

The Mother’s Day, which is a day to express gratitude, love and respect to one’s mother, holds equal significance to those who have lost their mothers.

Kathmandu was a bit crowded today with the rush of people in the streets, sweet houses and gift shops. While thousands of people who have lost their mothers thronged the Matatirtha today to show respect to their mothers. At Matatirtha temple located in the hill, devotees perform rituals in their own ways.

Most of the devotees are Newars, Tamangs, Brahmins and Chhetris living in the periphery of Kathmandu.

For Sanu Shrestha of Tokha, it is a part of tradition to perform rituals here after his mother died two years ago. Sonam Lama of Balambu came with a group of neighbours. “We are a group, who lost our mothers this year. We conducted our rituals and gave offerings to the priest,” she said.
