KATHMANDU, MAY 26

Lawmakers have suggested that the government seek alternative to petroleum products and traditional skills during discussion on the government's policies and programmes for the fiscal 2022-23 in today's meeting of the National Assembly.

They asked the government to provide chemical fertiliser on time, establish fertiliser factory in the country, pay attention to national pride projects, resolve the problems of landless squatters, and focus on providing quality education, among others. Some lawmakers put forth their views in favour of the government's policies and programmes while some others expressed their dissatisfaction with it.

On the occasion, lawmaker of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Jayanti Devi Rai said though the government's policies and programmes were good, the government had to focus on increasing the use of electricity as alternative to petroleum products in the policies and programmes.

Similarly, Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar of the CPN-Maoist Centre suggested that the government give tax exemption on raw materials brought from abroad to modernise indigenous and traditional profession.

"There should be government's programme to preserve traditional skill, profession, art and culture," he added.

Tul Prasad Bishwokarma of Rastriya Janamorcha Party asked the government to dismiss the provincial system and spend its budget on development.

He viewed that restructuring of the state had increased expenses.

Likewise, Maya Prasad Sharma of the CPN-Maoist Centre said it was good to give more attention to tourism and agriculture in the government's policies and programmes.

Gomadevi Timilsina of the CPN (Unified Socialist) said the government's policies and programmes must pay attention to bring Bansbari Leather and Shoes Factory and Janakpur Cigarette Factory into operation again.

Similarly, Tulasa Kumari Dahal of the CPN-UML said she felt the government had brought the policies and programmes against people's sentiments and had not paid attention to the issue of resolution of problems that could surface during the rainy season.

Nanda Chapai of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Prakash Pantha and Anita Devkota of the Nepali Congress, Radhe Shyam Paswan and Gopi Bahadur Sarki (Achhami) of the CPN-Maoist Centre, and Indu Kadariya of the CPN- UML also took part in the discussion on the government's policies and programmes.

The NA will meet next at 11:00am tomorrow.
