MPs vow to be more accountable
Kathmandu, April 25:
Lawmakers today said the reinstated House should be more accountable to the people and the nation.
“It is going to be an extraordinary parliament in many ways. We are going to the House, thanks to the contribution of millions of Nepalis. We must be responsible to them,” said Dilendra Prasad Badu, an NC lawmaker. The NC lawmaker was addressing an interaction organised today by the New Media Club.
Pradip Gyawali, a CPN-UML lawmaker, said the reinstatement of the House is only an initial success of the people’s movement.
According to him, the House should scrap all undemocratic decisions made during three years, announce election to a constituent assembly, declare truce, initiate peace talks and provide compensation to martyrs and people who got injured while struggling for democracy. Kashi Paudel, another NC lawmaker, said lawmakers’ allowance should be martyrs’ families and injured fighters.
Major Dipak Bahadur Gurung, an Upper House member, said, “Merging of Maoist militants with the RNA is not practical. Instead, some monetary benefits should be offered to them for laying down arms.”
The speakers at the programme also called for the NC’s unification.
