KATHMANDU: At least four climbers successfully stood atop the world's fourth highest peak this afternoon making the season's first ascent of the 8,516-metre peak.
According to Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal Treks, Tamting Sherpa, Dawa Tenji Sherpa, Pemba Tamang and Pasang Namgyal Sherpa scaled Mt Lhotse at around 12:50 pm.
Ngima Nuru and Pemba Tamang provided support to the Lhotse fixing team by carrying rope and fixing equipment, according to Mingma G.
A rope fixing team deployed by Imagine Nepal Treks has opened a route up to the summit point. "The climbers opened a route making the first summit on the mountain this season," he said, adding that all climbers are now descending to Camp IV. Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse share the same route up to the Yellow Band beyond Camp III.
A record at the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, at least 156 climbers of different 17 teams are attempting to climb Mt Lhotse this season.
