KATHMANDU, MAY 13
A team of rope-fixing climbers successfully scaled Mt Everest from Nepal side after they opened a climbing route to the summit point of the world's highest peak on Saturday afternoon. Base camp officials told THT over phone that a team of climbers from Imagine Nepal Treks stood atop Mt Everest at 1:52pm becoming the season's first to scale the tallest mountain.
Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal Treks said that the team led by IFMGA guide Dawa Gyalje Sherpa struggled hard to reach the summit point as they fixed ropes from Camp II.
Members of the rope fixing team include Dawa Gyalje Sherpa (leader) from Rolwaling, Ngima Nuru Sherpa-Thame, Lakpa Sherpa (Lakpa Sona)-Thame, Dipen Gurung-Sankhuwasabha, Pasang Ngima Sherpa-Phortse, Lhakpa Tenjing Sherpa-Thame, Phur Galjen Sherpa-Thame, Dawa (da) Jangbu Sherpa-Thame and Suman Gurung-Gorkha (photographer), according to Mingma G who has coordinated the rope-fixing task from the base camp.
More than 470 world climbers along with their support staff have been waiting for a fair weather to make summit attempts on Mt Everest after acclimatization in the Khumbu region for over a month. The climbers have also engaged in the camp rotations to prepare themselves for the summit pushes.
"Now, the world climbers along with their high altitude workers can make their summit pushes on Mt Everest after the rope fixing team opened the route," he said. Expedition Operator Association Nepal has assigned Imagine Nepal Treks to fix the ropes on Mt Everest this season.
Base camp officials said that a small team of climbers from Nims Purja's Elite Exped has already reached high camps to make summit push. Purja is leading Everest expedition for high-profile clients including Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey and SpaceX representative Tyler Carnevale among others.
