SIRAHA, NOVEMBER 6

In an apparent violation of the election code of conduct, a government employee working at Golbazaar Municipality joined a political party at a public programme in Siraha today.

Driver Jhagadu Mahara joined the CPN-UML at a party entry programme organised in the village today. CPN-UML politburo member and House of Representatives candidate from Siraha-3 Lilanath Shrestha welcomed Mahara into his party with garland and vermilion powder.

CPN-UML cadre Satish Chandra Singh said that a total of 180 individuals had joined the UML along with Mahara.

When contacted, Golbazaar Municipality Chief Shyam Kumar Shrestha did not receive the phone.

Chief Administrative Officer Anant Kumar Poudel confirmed that Jhagadu Mahara was a municipality employee.

"If a case is filed against Mahara for joining a political party, he will be punished as per the law of the land," Poudel added.
