Nepalgunj, October 12:

Transporters of Banke launched an agitation today, demanding compensation for the slain transporter Rajesh Basyal of Rajhena in the district.

An unidentified gang had murdered Basyal in Nawalparasi on September 28. As a part of their protest, the agitators barred vehicles from the roads for an hour today.

Transporters disrupted vehicular movement along the Nepalgunj-Kohalpur road.

The agitating transporters said they were forced to launch the agitation after the authorities concerned failed to meet their demands. They have demanded that the slain transporter be declared a martyr and compensation paid to the bereaved family.

Transporters will go for a decisive agitation if the government fails to meet our demands, said a transporter, Tanka Baral.
