Murder triggers Parsa shutdown

Birgunj, September 21:

Government employees and staffers of financial institutions based in Parsa district went on an indefinite general strike from today to protest the murder of an officer of the Parsa District Administration Office, Mohan Prasad Mainali, on Friday.

They have effected the closure of government offices and financial institutes for an indefinite period from this morning.

Members of nine organisations took out a rally in Birgunj against the murder.

Yesterday, the organisations handed a five-point memorandum to Chief District Officer Bhola Prasad Bhattarai. Their demands include declaration of Mainali as a martyr, Rs 1.5 lakh in compensation for the bereaved family, job for a member of the family, action against the murderer and guaranteed security for employees. CDO Bhola Prasad Bhandari has pledged to book the murderer. According to Ram Dev Lal Das, president of the Nepal Government Employee’s Organisation (Parsa Chapter), the strike will continue till their demands are met.

Different organisations, including VDC Secretaries’ Rights Protection Centre, Local Body Employees’ Organisation, Nepal Government Employees’ Organisation, Government Employees’ Organisation, Agriculture Development Bank Employees’ Organisation, National Commercial Bank Employees’ Organisation, Nepal Rastra Bank Employees’ Organisation Parsa Chapter, Nepal Bank Limited Employees’ Organisation and National Trading Limited Employees’ Organisation have called the strike.
