Muslims warn of agitation

Birgunj, March 9:

The Muslim society of Birgunj has warned of staging an agitation if their demands were not met at the earliest.

Organising a press conference here today, the Muslim Civil Society (MCS) said it would launch a peaceful agitation from March 27 if the government failed to meet their 11-point charter of demands submitted on February 24.

Chairman of the society Halim Ansari said his organisation would be compelled to stage protests if the demands were not met by March 27.

The society had submitted a memorandum to the PM on February 24, asking him to meet its demands. Their demands included formation of a Muslim Commission, drafting of a separate Muslim Law and reservation for the Muslim community in government jobs.

Ansari also claimed that the government had been deceiving the Muslims. “The government should recognise our own identity. We cannot be enlisted as Madhesis or Pahadis,” added Ansari.
