A mystery illness is stalking girl students in the Bishnu Janajyoti School at Makadum VDC for the past few days.

The students between the ages of 12 and 16 years are falling unconscious in their classes, a local Pramod KC said. “Nine students fell conscious in a single day very recently. However, the illness has not been identified yet,” a local, Suresh Karki, said, adding that 15-year-old Nirmala Ghising of grade VII could not appear in her final exams due to the illness.

Girls fall unconscious in the school and come round after two hours, Karki said, adding that guardians have called in shamans to look into the matter.

Some of the students were taken to the capital for treatment. However, they returned after doctors there could not diagnose the illness, Karki said.
