KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22
The board of directors of Nepal Airlines Corporation has sought clarification from Executive Chairman Ubaraj Adhikari citing ineffective performance of the airline, lack of growth, and loss of credibility.
In the meeting held today, NAC's board of directors asked Adhikari to furnish his clarification within the next seven days.
Among the various issues, the board has sought justification for the inability to initiate the process of sending for repair engine S/N: V17585 of the corporation's A320 aircraft 9N-AKW that had broken down on July 31 while the corporation has to pay daily fees for using a leased engine.
The board has also asked why engine S/N: V17584 of the corporation's A320 aircraft 9N-AKW which had been sent for repairs after problems were seen on December 28, 2021 has not been repaired and brought into operation. The board has also sought the reason for not returning the engine that had been taken on lease for operation of the said aircraft.
Furthermore, the board has asked Adhikari why 9N-ABX aircraft, which was being used for domestic flights, has not been repaired and put back into service.
Adhikari has also been asked why the corporation is unable to initiate online ticketing for international flights.
The NAC board has also asked him why he has not been able to manage the corporation's China-made planes MA 60 and Y 12E till date.
"It was decided to seek clarification from the chairman as the performance of NAC has been unsatisfactory," a NAC source told THT, seeking anonymity.
The source said that the board has also sought justification for chartering the aircraft of NAC even after selling tickets to the public, the reason for not reducing the debt burden of the corporation by not searching for cheap soft loans, and the reason for not preparing and implementing a strategic plan for the promotion and development of the corporation.
