Narayani hospital staff on strike
Birgunj, May 4:
The physicians of Narayani sub-regional hospital organised a strike and shut all the services in the hospital, including emergency, from 3 pm today.
Their protest was sparked by action of the hospital management committee against Dr Jayanta Kumar Shah. The committee accused Shah of carelessness while treating a boy, who later died. Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Bidyapati Kantha’s decision to annul his appointment led to the physicians’ protest.
Meanwhile, Parsa Chief District Officer, Bhola Shiwakoti, said the emergency services in the hospital were the most essential for the patients. He has issued directives to the superintendent to resume the services. He added that discussion would be held to punish Dr RK Singh, who left the emergency ward without prior notice.
Eight-month-old Abhishek Hawari, son of Manjur Hawari, from Bara’s Buniyar VDC-5, had died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on April 24. Action was taken against Shah on the basis of the report prepared by the probe committee led by the chairman of the hospital development committee, Baburam Kaushik. Accused Shah claims that the boy died due to lack of hemoglobin in his blood.
